A LECTURER NARROWLY avoided injury yesterday when lightning struck just metres away from her – and it was all caught on camera.
Nicola Duffy from the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown was filming a bout of heavy rain (as you do).
“The mother was on the phone to me, and she just loves the weather,” Nicola, originally from Donegal, told TheJournal.ie.
“She said we just had hailstones, and I said wait until you see the rain we’re having down here.”
As she was filming, a bolt of lightning appeared to strike just on the opposite side of the courtyard where she was filming.
“I thought something had fallen out of the sky,” she said.
She got a bit of a shock, needless to say, and fell over.
Nicola, a lecturer in the Creative Digital Media course at the college (who have their end of year show on Friday), said there was no visible damage, which has prompted some at the college to speculate that what she recorded was lightning hitting the building she was standing in, and reflected in the glass.
A spokesperson for the college said an exam hall close by was briefly disrupted by the massive bang, but no other damage was caused, and added that Nicola did the lotto soon afterwards.
