IN CASE YOU didn’t know, Lily Allen’s father is also in the entertainment industry.
Keith Allen is an actor, a TV presenter, and was once a member of a punk band in the late 1970s.
With a father so heavily involved in the arts for the guts of 40 years, it’s hardly surprising Lily inherited his penchant for performing, and at the age of 21 endeavoured to carve out a career for herself in the music industry.
Leveraging the power of social media back in the early noughties, Lily, who went on to win multiple Ivor Novellas, promoted her songs on MySpace, and personally packaged and sent CDs to any followers who expressed an interest in getting their hands on one.
It doesn’t exactly sound like the fast track to superstardom, and yet the 33-year-old is still forced to defend herself against those who believe her father’s acting career had something to do with her musical success.
With three hugely successful albums under her belt and the fourth set for release on June 8th, Lily’s accomplishments simply cannot be placed at the feet of her father – something some members of the public simply refuse to accept.
Yesterday, a Twitter user commented on Lily’a recent appearance on Later with Jools Holland, writing:
Sorry but Lily Allen mediocre singer only got where she is because she has a celebrity dad. Sad that real talent never gets a look in as they haven’t got the contacts.

And Lily rebuttal was absolutely top-class.
Mediocre men have dominated the music industry (all industry) since its inception. Why shouldn’t mediocre women have their seat at the table too ? #NoShame https://t.co/zEFZlp94WH

And Twitter is here for it.
With many revealing they had never heard of Lily’s father and others deriding the initial commentator for his assessment of Lily’s impact on the music industry over the last 12 years, It’s fair to say Lily took this one.
I still don’t know who your dad is

I know he was in Shallow Grave but I only knew he was a name actor after discovering Lily’s very-not-mediocre music. 🤷🏻♂️

Well that’s clearly bollock talk mate. You’d have a job naming 5 artists that have captured a generation’s voice as perfectly as Lily has. I really don’t understand where all this animosity comes from.

All these haters and dickheads keep piping up and here’s @lilyallen just knocking them all down again like f’kn bowling pins 😂😂👏🏻👏🏻🎳 get your popcorn ready!🍿

People don't like to believe anyone's got where they are by hard work because that would mean they could do the same too.
