Lonely Planet named this West Cork jacks as one of the best toilets in the world
THE GOUGANE BARRA National Forest Park near Ballingeary, West Cork has a few claims to fame – but this week Lonely Planet probably gave it its most surreal accolade yet:
They named its jacks in the top 100 toilets in the world.
The thatched toilets situated near the hotel in the park now have some international recognition
Lonely Planet has published a new book called Toilets: A Spotter’s Guide, with the aim to document the most interesting toilets for visitors travelling around the world.
As they say in the introduction to the book, the toilet is “a window into the soul of a destination”:
This isn’t the first time the bathroom has won awards, as a Geograph.ie photographer noted when visiting:
“The plate on the wall just below the ‘gents’ sign confirms that these facilities won an award for being the ‘best toilets on Ireland’”

Just another reason to visit the spectacular Gougane Barra park
Lonely Planet knows quality when they see it.
