Charlie and Ellie's blowout was the only mildly interesting thing about last night's Love Island reunion

Fans felt the reunion was heavily scripted.

SPOILERS AHEAD IF you haven’t caught up with the Love Island: Christmas Reunion yet …

Last night, the world got reacquainted with some of the biggest breakout stars of 2018 – the cast of Love Island series four.

Yep, what a stroke of genius from ITV2, reuniting the summer’s most dysfunctional reality TV family for one night only? Nothing says festive cheer like that, right?

… Except, the whole thing fell a bit flat.

After teasing two fights between former couples Sam and Georgia and Charlie and Ellie, in which the topic of loyalty was prevalent for both, viewers got to see the outcome of both.

Sam and Georgia

Sam and Georgia’s discussion went about as well as you’d imagine. After making a typically animated entrance – i.e. shrieking like a child on speed – Georgia skirted past him to once again reassure the girls that she was loyal. (This is despite the fact that she was pretty much caught-red handed going over to her ex’s house at all hours “to collect something”. Oh, and take selfies in bed with him, obvs.)

Meanwhile, in the Beach Hut (what’s the Christmas equivalent? Snow Globe?), Sam reiterated that Georgia was “unloyal” whether she wanted to admit it to herself or not.

‘Disloyal’. The word is ‘disloyal’.

When the pair eventually got chatting themselves, Georgia denied there was any tension between them while Sam sought closure. He told Georgia that he had evidence of her going to an ex-boyfriend’s house more than once, but she claimed that she was loyal, and just went around his to pick up her things.

The pair also disagreed on who broke up with who and when, and she accused him of making her feel “trapped” and being “horrible” to her.

Unsurprisingly, viewers were mostly on Sam’s side:

Ellie and Charlie

Now, these guys broke up in September this year after seemingly moving in together and packing on the PDA for the ‘gram. Where did it all go wrong?

Well, as it turns out, Charlie went to London to have dinner with a woman, but told Ellie he was somewhere else entirely. When she got suss, he went to great lengths to make her seem like she was crazy, before admitting that he lied about where he’d been. However, like Georgia, he’s adamant he didn’t cheat.

Listen, maybe if you tell yourself enough times you can convince yourself it’s true?

Admist tears, Ellie begged for Charlie to admit their relationship ended because of his infidelity.

“You’re a liar, you’re a compulsive liar. You cheated on me,” she declared, though the millionaire socialite quickly denied the allegations.

I was devastated and I loved you to bits,” she cried.

Charlie then accused Ellie of spinning the story to make herself sound more innocent, as he claimed she was also unfaithful to him.

The pair were then broke up by the newly christened voices of reason, Megan and Wes. An insider told The Sun Online about how Charlie threatened to walk shortly after.

“He threatened to quit and walked of out filming. After their row he caught Ellie trying to turn the other cast members against him and it was the final straw for Charlie.

He won’t stand for bullying and is always respectful to men and women. He said he was so shocked by her behaviour. He stormed out but after speaking to bosses resumed filming again.”

Needless to say, the public were very much on Ellie’s surprise:

Right, what else happened then?

Lisgten, you didn’t miss much. There was some weird subplot involving Eyal and Kendall getting together, including a bit where the manic pixie dream boy gets into a pool in his jeans. Less of it, TBH.

The producers made Hayley out to be a thick again by making her pretend to not know what the EU stands for and also forget who Dr. Alex was, the latter being slightly more believable.

Jack and Dani’s break-up-and-make-up was heavily referred to throughout the show by narrator Iain Stirling. Otherwise, the pair put on a united front.

Laura and Paul had a chat so boring you’d struggle to believe that they actually managed to come second on the show. Second!!!

Dr. Alex is at level 1 of the Do Bits Society with someone since leaving the villa. A likely story.

And finally, Alexandra was there! Although Caroline Flack seemed to forget that towards the end and forgot to give her a present. Hate that.

Where the f*ck were the others?

  • Josh was away in the US at the time of filming, though Kaz made sure to go to promote her new hairband line. Priorities.
  • Niall wasn’t asked, according to his recent Insta post.
  • No official word on why Rosie didn’t attend, but apparently, she wasn’t arsed seeing Adam again. She seemingly spent the premiere night running around after her new fella in Galway of all places.
  • Jack Fowler heavily implied that he also wasn’t invited on Twitter, retweeting fans angry reactions to his absence.
  • Realistically, does anyone care about the others? Darylle who?

While a bit of outside drama is always welcome at this time of year, the format of the show was criticised for heavily staged it seemed.

If you missed it, I wouldn’t be rushing to get this on catch-up. Thank you, next – until next June, of course.
