The makers of Love/Hate have started filming a new crime drama for RTÉ

Stuart Carolan is back with a new series called ‘Taken Down’ starring Lynn Rafferty and Brian Gleeson.

LOVE HATE WAS the biggest drama to hit RTÉ in many years. Every Sunday for 6 weeks, we’d be glued to our telly wondering how John Boy, Darren and Nidge were planning to get their drugs into Dublin and make a profit to keep Debbie and Trish in the lifestyle they’d become accustomed to.

Well the makers of the show are heading back into production for a brand new RTÉ crime drama that is set to start filming this week. A fair few of the cast for the new show were in Love/Hate as well so it seems like a mini reunion more than anything. Either way, we’re here for it.

Taken Down which is the current working title of the show will follow Detective Jen Rooney who investigates the violent death of a young Nigerian migrant whose body is found near a Direct Provision Centre. The investigation is set to examine a new Ireland where slum landlords and criminals prey on the vulnerable such as those seeking asylum in Ireland.

Lynn Rafferty plays Jen Rooney and you may remember her as Nadine from Love/Hate as well as BBC’s Ripper Street. She’ll be joined by Brian Gleeson (Rebellion/The Stag), Aissa Maiga (Anything for Alice), Orla Fitzgerald (The Young Offenders)immy Smallhorne (Love/Hate), Barry Ward (End of The F*cking World), Enoch Frost (Skyfall) and Slimane Dazi (A Prophet).

Filming is set to take place for 10 weeks around Dublin and best selling novelist Jo Spain is on board with the project. Stuart Carolan is the write and executive producer as well as Suzanne McAuley with David Caffrey in the directors chair.

We’ve been looking for a replacement for Love/Hate since it ended in 2014 and it looks like Taken Down could be the fix we need. We’re not sure when it’ll be aired but RTÉ promised to reveal more details at their new season launch in August.
