Academy Award nominee reignites GIF/JIF debate

We don’t know what to think.

WELL FOLKS, IT looks like we’re back here again.

Woman of the moment and Academy Award nominee Lupita Nyong’o has stated on live television that the correct way to pronounce the acronym for ‘graphics interchange format’ is “GIF”.

This brings the events of last March flooding back, when the inventor of the GIF Steve Wilhite announced:

It is a soft ‘G’, pronounced ‘JIF’. End of story.

The “GIF” purists were having none of it, sticking rigidly with their own ways, but now Nyong’o has told Jimmy Fallon:

I used to say “GIF” and then somebody told me it was “JIF”, so I said “okay fine”.

She was, of course, referring to this amazing event:
