Maia Dunphy and Johnny Vegas have announced they've separated

In their statement they said there was ‘no acrimony, no story and no one else involved’.

AUTHOR AND BROADCASTER Maia Dunphy and English comedian Johnny Vegas have revealed that they have separated after 7 years of marriage.

In a statement posted on Maia’s Twitter and retweeted by Johnny, the couple said that they ‘separated some time ago last year’ and that there was ‘no acrimony, no story and no one else involved’.

The couple married in 2011 in Spain having met in 2008 and have one son together. Johnny has another son from a previous relationship.

Their marriage was famed for its uniqueness as Johnny lived in London while Maia lived in Dublin due to work commitments.

In an interview with the Independent last year she commented that it was hard saying ‘I’m effectively a single mum, most of the time.’ When asked why they didn’t live together Maia quipped ‘We tried that, it didn’t work!’.

The longest time we spent together before three years ago was our honeymoon of two weeks. That was the longest stretch of time together. That was really weird, and probably not very healthy.
