What's in my makeup bag? James Mac Inerney

Having a rummage through some of our favourite faces’ wares.

Each week, we’ll be taking a peek into some of our faves’ makeup bags to see their must-have products, because we’re nosey. This week, it’s the turn of photographer and Vanity X student James Mac Inerney. You can view his work here.

His earliest makeup memories

“So my first makeup memory must have been putting mam’s lipstick on when I was dressing up as Cinderella and child.

I loved snatching her shoes throwing a robe on and doing the lost shoe on the stairs scene from Cinderella (to be honest my sneaks come off frequently on a messy night out so technically still a princess).

“After that, I was always drawing eyebrows and wing flicks in my notebook in school and wore mascara for the first time when I was thirteen, and curled my lashes when I was 15. It was the world’s best kept secret until I was about 21.”

“Drag make up eventually took over after falling in love with the phenomenon that is RuPaul’s Drag Race and has lead me to where I am now – starting full time doing a make up artistry course in VanityX Academy!”

What’s inside?

“This is basically everything I’d use in order left to right for my daily look – give or take 20 mins getting ready (I wish I was joking).”

“I dampen a good ol’ Beauty Blender sponge and cover up any unwanted blemishes with Rimmel London Wake Me Up concealer and mix match with their concealer stick too.”

“A little bit of Bourjois Healthy Balance powder to blend it out in my skin tone and she’s good to go skinwise.”

“When I have time, I do slap a bit of contour and highlight the necessary points -under brow bone, tiiiiniest bit for the cheekbones and the button/tip of nose. A palette from TK Maxx and Make Up Forever eyeshadows do the trick here.”

“My faaaave part and a MUST MUST, no matter if I don’t bother my arse with doing any of the rest some days, is BROWS.”

“Left to right I have a hard toothbrush that, no joke, is the god damn thing for brushing brows upwards so they’re all in line like the primary school rota call.”

“I do fill in the outside edges and inner corners giving more of a definite shape with a Decorderm black eye pencil and filled with half of a broken brow pencil brush from Benefit.

“I use an angle brush to get them brows super sharp with a gel eyeliner from Claire’s Accessories – #KeepItCheap.”

“I have a MAC Cosmetics eyelash curler that does the job but my friend has a Sephora one that I’m still trying to steal it’s so god damn glorious – trip to NY, anyone?

“I layer with this mascara very lightly – it’s called BePerfect mascara gel, can’t remember where I got it, she’s aged. Curl again and then I apply a very light layer of the Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara.”
