What's in my makeup bag? Doireann Ni Ruairc
EACH WEEK, WE’LL be taking a peek into some of our faves’ makeup bags to see their must-have products, because we’re nosey. This week, it’s the turn of makeup artist Doireann Ni Ruairc. You can follow her on Instagram here.
Her earliest makeup memories
“I was a late bloomer when it came to makeup really, I never wore it in school at all and only first tried anything when I was 17!
“I have two older sisters though and I used to watch them get ready for nights out; my eldest sister had a YSL palette and I loved to swatch the colors just to see them!
“Eventually my older sisters decided I needed my own stuff and brought me to MAC in BT2 in Dundrum shopping centre. There, the obsession was really born! The lovely girl on MAC used purple on me, to make my green eyes pop. I still remember I bought raven kohl eye pencil and a lavender eyeshadow.”
Her makeup bag and what’s inside
“My go to foundation is Urban Decay Naked Skin, I’ve tried other ones but always come back to it. It’s lightweight but has buildable coverage. It’s got no SPF so it photographs nicely too.
“After that I need concealer, I’m loving the Laura Mercier Pro longwear one at the minute! I tried it recently and since then it’s become a firm favorite in my makeup bag. I always use a sponge to apply these so there’s always a Real Techniques one in my bag.
“My favorite powder at the minute is the Urban Decay Naked Skin finishing powder, it goes on so smoothly but isn’t cakey.
“I will not go out without doing my brows. Like most people at the minute I’m super into mine so I for ease I use the Billion Dollar Brows Triple Threat brow pencil. It’s double ended with a spoolie comb on one end to run through the hairs and give s natural finish. It’s great for when you need to get your brows on fast!
“Blush and bronzer are next. I use the Cheek Parade palette from Benefit! A quick spot of Rockateur and Hoola stops me from looking like the undead. Without them my foundation can look very flat.
“If I’m rushing I’ll pop on some Supershock highlighter from Colorpop in the shade ‘Glazed’. It’s a creamy formula that I dab on with my sponge. It catches the light beautifully. I’ve used it for about a year now and love it.
“If I’m in a big rush, I’ll just pop some highlighter in my inner eye corner and mascara! Currently, I’m loving the Benefit Roller Lash one! It really lifts my lashes and the mini travel size is perfect for my bag.
“A swipe of lipstick finishes me off. I love Charlotte Tilbury lipstick, KKW Beauty or nude Kate; great nude shades that I always have in my handbag!
“When it comes to eyes I could go on forever but I will just say I swear by MAC Paint Pot in ‘Painterly’ as a primer to make eyeshadow last!
“Finally, Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. I buy big bottles and decant it into the travel size ones! It sets makeup like nothing else and whether I’m doing my own face or even a bride I always finish with this. I’ve used this FOREVER and have yet to find a setting spray that even comes close to it.”
