Mr Medeiros in the manhole Ceres Police Department

Man gets stuck in manhole trying to save his phone

Jared Medeiros, 21, said he was irritated that police had taken a photo of him stuck with legs in the air.

A MAN GOT stuck face-down in a manhole with his legs in the air after diving in to retrieve his mobile phone.

Jared Medeiros, 21, said he was attacked by a gang who then threw his phone down the drain in Ceres, California. He then went in to get it back – but had to be rescued by police after becoming stuck up to his waist for at least 40 minutes, the New York Daily News reports.

Local Brianna Mooney, 16, raised the alarm. “His legs were sticking outward and he was kicking and screaming,” she told ABC News. “I was concerned, but I was also laughing – it was funny.”

Mr Medeiros said the gang had assaulted him as he walked down the street. “I walked past them and then one of them hit me from behind,” he said. “I started fighting with one of them and then all of them were hitting and kicking me on the ground.”

Mr Medeiros later said he was irritated that police had released a photo of his predicament. “I don’t understand why they would sit and take pictures,” he said. “That kind of pisses me off.”
