Man rescued from truck hanging over New York street

FIRE FIGHTERS IN New York have rescued the driver of a truck which was left dangling two storeys above the street after crashing through a wall.

The salt spreading lorry ploughed through the outside wall of a repair facility in Queens, stopping only when it was halfway out of the building – with the driver still stuck in the cab. According to local news station WPIX-TV, the back of the truck appeared to just catch on the window frames.

Onlooker Frank Almona told the New York Post: “I heard a loud bang and turned and I saw this truck sticking out of the side of the building. The driver was screaming like crazy, he was saying, ‘Help, help, help.’ He was hanging on.”

The driver, a 56-year-old man, was rescued using a ladder by firefighters – who also tweeted a photo of the truck hanging from the building. He is now being treated in hospital for neck and back injuries, the Village Voice reports. A Department of Sanitation spokesman said: “We don’t really know how it happened.”
