James Jablon in the lions' enclosure

Man takes walk on the wild side by living with lions

Florida animal lover wants to raise funds for sanctuary by bunking down in lion’s den

IT’S A SCARY world out there – but is it so bad that a lion’s den looks like a safe place by comparison?

A man in Florida is spending 30 days living with two African lions in their private enclosure, eating, sleeping and playing with them. James Jablon, who is thankfully a wildlife rehabilitation expert, says he is aware that his project is a little on the wild side. He told his local news station, Tampa’s 10 News:

Especially if they’re playing with something and you try to take it and you go near it, they go after you and when they fight with each other – which they do – you don’t want to be near them because as soon as something touches then, they don’t concern themselves with who’s touching them. They’re going to bite.

Jablon is putting himself in the lion’s den with lions Lea and Ed to hopefully raise funds and raise awareness of his project, the non-profit Wildlife Rehabilitation of Hernando. He will stay with the pair of lions until January 31 and his movements are being broadcast live on a video stream here. He’s hoping to raise around $200,000 for his wildlife sanctuary.
