What's in my makeup bag? Jennifer O'Donoghue (Matte To Metallic)

Having a rummage through our favourite faces’ wares.

Each week, we’ll be taking a peek into some of our faves’ makeup bags to see their must-have products, because we’re nosey. This week, it’s the turn of makeup artist and one-half of the brains behind Matte To Metallic makeup academy, Jennifer Donoghue. You can see more of Jennifer’s work here.

Her earliest makeup memories

“I remember getting a makeup voucher off my mother-in-law to have a makeup application done in MAC- at this time I didn’t really wear much makeup at all.
“I went along to use the voucher as I was going to a wedding and I’ll never forget when I looked in the mirror. I said to myself “who is that person?” (in a good way of course!)
The makeup artist done such a fab job and I said to myself, “I really want to learn how to do that!” I wanted to give that feeling to others.
“I always stick to our signature skin look – the one that she did on me that day. Skin still looking like skin, keeping it nice & dewy and fresh. It’s definitely a look we have stuck with over the years & skin looking like skin is a trend that’s always in, in our opinion!”

MAC Fix+, the travel size,  comes everywhere with me easily fits into the makeup bag. It’s hydrates the skin, fixes your makeup into place at the same time. I love the way it has cucumber extract in it it calms & soothe the skin too as I have redness around my cheeks – I love it for this!
MAC Dip Down brown gel liner works wonders for even a quick smokey eye on the go, buffed all over the lid with some bronzer in the crease. I take it everywhere. I love a brown liner – I think it’s way more flattering than black as black can sometimes close your eye in. It’s great on the water line too as it does not budge. I love it also smudged on to the waterline to bring you from a day to a night look instantly – my go to for years!
MAC Prep & Prime Essential Oil Stick is a skin saviour for all skin types. My skin is extra dry around this time of year, so I use it as skin prep before foundation. It’s full of essential oils and it absorbs quickly into the skin so you don’t have to wait around for ages to then apply foundation. It really makes your skin super hydrated and it also works well just tapped lightly on top of the cheekbones after foundation for that super dewy skin look.
“I love all of the Makeup Revolution lipsticks & glosses - I have so many! They last all day. My fave shade at the moment is Invite Only. A nude brown shade works well for an everyday lipstick!
LA Girl Pro Coverage HD foundation is my go to foundation. I love how it makes the skin looks dewy & even though it’s full coverage it does not look cakey on the skin. It comes in a good share range too. I even use this on clients, it performs so well – I can’t be without it!
“I love the brand Nabla – their brow gels are fab. I use the shade ‘Mar’s as it has a reddish undertone to suit the copper tones in my hair. It’s really easy to work with on the brows, I literally could not live without it. They are also very affordable, although you have to order online as they don’t have stockists in Ireland at the minute.
Smashbox Draw In Decked Out sculpting cheek palette has everything I need for contour, blush & highlight and all in very flattering shades. I’m really pale & this palette suits me – it even has tones for darker skin tones. A brilliant palette I use daily! The shades even work great on the eyes so it’s super versatile!
“Maybelline Healthy Mix concealer has anti fatigue & radiance properties, as well its apricot shade to counteract the blue tones under the eyes. This is a drug store concealer that does exactly what it says on the tin!”
