A Mattress Mick documentary is on its way to a massive international film festival
A cardboard Mick and the man behind the character, Paul Kelly. Facebook Facebook
THREE YEARS OF following Mattress Mick around.
Imagine the footage.
That’s what documentary maker Colm Quinn has has been doing, working on a film to look beyond the character at the man (Michael Flynn) who sells the mattresses, and the man who helped to build the character, Paul Kelly.
The relationship between Flynn and Kelly, and Kelly’s toil to produce successful (and increasingly bizarre) videos and content to promote the brand when the recession struck is at the centre of the film.
Mattress Men is set to premiere at the HotDocs festival in Toronto in May, touted as a ‘Future Cult Classic’. HotDocs is North America’s largest documentary film festival, and draws around 200,000 people a year. It attracts filmmakers and buyers from all over the world.
