A group of Mayo students in Galway have set up a Mayo Monday event to rival Donegal Tuesday

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

OVER THE PAST few years, Donegal Tuesday has become somewhat of an annual event in Galway.

The gist of it is as follows: NUI Galway students don Donegal jerseys and go on the tear. It’s really that simple.

Not keen on letting Donegal hog the limelight, some Mayo students have decided to set up a rival to Donegal Tuesday by the name of Mayo Monday, which will take place on February 13th.

They’ve even created some nifty artwork for the occasion.

Organisers of the event told DailyEdge.ie that they held a Mayo Monday event in 2016 having joined forces with Karma Nightclub.

The city was buzzing with Mayo jerseys from 9am in the morning till 5am the next day. The event last year had around 1,700 people.

They have once again teamed up with Karma Nightclub, who will admit anyone wearing a green and red jersey. “The first 200 will go in free and a massive sesh is expected,” said organisers.

Much like Donegal Tuesday, Mayo Monday fans will be congregating in Hole in the Wall from 9.30am on Monday morning for a spot of day drinking.

As for the dress code?

A Mayo Jersey is mandatory.

Hundreds of people have expressed interest in the Facebook event, so it looks like Donegal Tuesday may have finally met its rival, much to the delight of organisers.

We want to leave a lasting legacy behind to make it bigger than Donegal Tuesday.

Donegal and Mayo – putting the rest of Ireland to shame.
