Mayor to fill the Mansion House with whiskey. Or something.

“Whiskey paradise” to take over the residence of the capital’s First Citizen.

TAOISEACH ENDA KENNY said just last week that exports would be the lifeline to recovery for the Irish economy.

But what do the Irish export well? Whiskey, naturally. And on 14 May next, the Mansion House in Dublin will be “transformed into a whiskey lover’s paradise” to highlight the fact that Ireland is expected to export up to 5 million cases of the stuff this year alone. Or as Whiskey Live Dublin puts it, “the fastest-growing brown spirit in the world”. (They are predicting that 6.5 million cases will be exported in 2015).

The Dublin Lord Mayor’s residence – or part of it, at least – is to host the first Whiskey Live event in Ireland. Attendees will come away with miniature bottles, tasting glass and sample the ‘uisce beatha’ with cheese, coffee and… chocolate (who knew?) Over 18s only, of course.

Lord Mayor Gerry Breen looked very happy to be launching the event today:
