11 memories all Waterford people have of Dignity

(Insert “losing dignity” joke here.)

DIGNITY WAS WATERFORD’S first gay bar. It opened in 2008 and closed in 2013, but in that time, it established itself as one of the best places in Waterford for a night out.

Let’s reminisce for a sec, shall we?

1. First of all, it was in a decidedly unglam part of town

“What will we put next to the bookies and empty flats?” “Oh, I know — a gay bar.”

2. But once you got inside, it was the epitome of ~glam~

It had booths, cocktails, a savage outdoor area and glam performers. A far cry from The Woodman, let me tell you that much.

3. Seriously, can we take a moment to remember their divine slushie cocktails?

So much brain freeze, but so worth it.

It's Fridayyyy!!! 🍹🍍😁🙌🏼 #drinks #cocktail #frozencocktails #friday #relax #tgifriday

4. There was always at least one hen party inside

It wasn’t a Saturday night without an army of women tearing up the dancefloor to Proud Mary, tbh.

5. And who can forget the pole on stage?

If you stepped foot in Dignity even once, chances are that photos exist of you posing near the pole like the gas ticket you are.

6. Many a Wednesday was spent availing of their €3 drinks

Sure it would have been rude not to.

7. And who can forget their bingo nights?

8. You saw the likes of Tyra Wanks, Joanna Ryde and Victoria de Tampax perform on a regular basis

Lipsyncing to Alexandra Burke’s Bad Boys, you know yourself.

9. Pretty much every X Factor/Britain’s Got Talent finalist played there at some point

Kitty Brucknell, Jonny Robinson, Rylan, Mary Byrne et al.

10. The biggest star of all to grace the Dignity stage? Shayne Ward.

It was a big day for Waterford, okay?

11. Now that it’s closed, you miss it desperately because you know there was no better spot for a bop and a drink

Best tunes in Waterford by a country mile, tbh. We miss you, Dignity.
