THE DONEGAL ROSE Amy Callaghan may have stunned us all with her hoop swinging, but it wasn’t her talent that people are praising her for.
The 22-year-old from Letterkenny used her time on stage to talk to Dáithí about her previous struggles with anxiety and how she eventually made the move to speak to someone about it.

I think everybody goes through their own little blip throughout their life. I had mine, definitely. When I was going into Sixth year, that Leaving Cert cycle everything kind of snowballed. Peer pressure as well. I was low in myself, self-confidence was at a terrible level, I was anxious.
My mum and my dad helped me a lot, they got me talking to somebody.
If I even thought for a second I’d be standing on this stage, in front of all these people. I’m very proud of that.
In her Rose blurb, she explained that she’s a huge advocate for mental health, and fundraises for Jigsaw, a mental health organisation for the youth of Donegal and Pieta House Letterkenny, which offers vital suicide and bereavement counselling.
Her comments were extremely welcome among viewers
People applauded her for using the platform to normalise speaking about mental health
People are already calling it
Could she be an early contender? We’ll have to find out tomorrow.
