19 times we were proud to call Michael D our President in 2017
LOOKING BACK ON 2017, one President has dominated global discourse – mostly through his objectively deranged Twitter account.
When a big scandal breaks in the States, Irish people often look at who we have as President with some relief.
And there are many delightful photos of Michael D Higgins from the past 12 months:
1. Like when he was spotted chatting to this man with a budgie on his shoulder on Salthill Prom in Galway
“How’s tricks?”
2. Back in February, he took a diplomatic trip to Cuba and was spotted out and about in this straw hat
3. Here he is at the funeral of Coastguard pilot Mark Duffy, comforting his son Fionn following the tragedy of Rescue 116
4. As President, he has a wide-ranging brief. From tragic events to walking around the National Ploughing Championships, saying hello to this horse
5. Standing beside the extremely tall Taoiseach led to quite the contrast
6. Remember when he was spotted celebrating a last minute winner for Galway United
7. And, of course, there are his dogs always by his side
8. At any events at the Áras, the dogs can’t get enough of hanging out with their President
9. He was there to present the jerseys to the Ireland women’s rugby team ahead of their first World Cup match
10. And look at his face when he presented Galway with the National Hurling League trophy
11. When he welcomed Joe Biden into his gaff
And these little Michael and Sabina figurines were spotted on the table:
12. Bernie stopped by in 2017 too
13. Tributes were paid to The O’Donovan brothers, but it was Michael D’s two dogs that stole the show
13. Lepping up to introduce themselves to the lads
14. He wished Roy Keane the best of luck a few weeks ahead of the match against Denmark
15. And chatted away to the manager that same afternoon
We’re not going to blame Michael D for that catastrophic loss.
