Michelle Obama sets world record... for star-jumps
THE UNITED STATES’ first lady Michelle Obama now holds part of a world record – though she shares the accolade with over 300,000 other people.
Mrs Obama said in an email today that her bid to break the world record for the most people doing ‘jumping jacks’ in a 24 hour period had succeeded.
Obama said 300,265 people participated in total, shattering the old record of just over 20,000 people.
Obama had led about 400 elementary and middle-school students from Washington in starjumps on the South Lawn of the White House in order to contribute towards breaking the record.
Other co-ordinated jumping jacks events were held around the world on October 11.
The effort was organised by National Geographic Kids magazine in support of Mrs Obama’s ‘Let’s Move!’ initiative to promote physical fitness and healthy eating for children.
