GIVEN JUST HOW important it is to the country socially, it’s a wonder that Dublin’s venerable Copper Face Jacks has rarely been immortalised in song before.
Kildare singer-songwriter Mick Konstantin has composed a cracking tune about a typical night in the Harcourt Street institution, with everything from the cheesy tunes to the Babylon chipper getting a shout out.
Here’s just a sample of the lyrics:
And every make of person, comes stumbling through the door
You’ll find teachers, nurses, farmers, jersey pullers by the score
It’s the only place that country folk and Dubs get along
Cos there all so feckin’ hammered, happy out and singing along
It’s going super viral on Facebook, and for good reason – give it a listen.
Masterful.
