The new Luas has created a 'mini-Stonehenge' of electrical boxes and people are taking the piss

One of Ireland’s newest tourist monuments.

THE LUAS CROSS City works are coming to an end, but the actual new trams won’t be taking passengers until December.

Still, nice for Dubliners to see the dreaded roadworks and delays slowly disappearing.

But one side effect of having the Luas running through town has been these electrical boxes popping up – with a particularly large crop of them appearing on College Green

It looked so much like a mini-Stonehenge that the site was immediately dubbed ‘Luashenge’

A new cultural monument for tourists and locals to enjoy.

People have been taking the piss out of Luashenge all week

It has its own Monument page on Facebook

And it’s already received a 5 star review yesterday:

Very impressive, someone had a look at it, said to themselves: “sure, it’ll be grand”, and signed off on it

A fake Dublin tourist poster has been created

Excellent.

The sarcasm has been on point

Look, it’s a bad situation and a serious eyesore, but the silver lining is that within a few hours we’d come up with an inventive name for such an atrocity

More suggestions welcome

The issue made it to Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio One this morning, and Green Party councillor Ciaran Cuffe has said that the boxes are ”not what tourists came to Dublin to see”.

The Luashenge issue looks like it will take a while to be sorted – but until then, at least we have the jokes.
