IT WAS ALL drama in the Brexit/Irish border negotiations yesterday – as the DUP stepped in last-minute to scupper a potential deal between the UK and Irish governments.
Leo Varadkar even had to field questions about his choice of vest after rocking up to an emergency cabinet meeting straight from the gym:
A noticeable trend over the past few days has been some British politicians not exactly having a detailed grasp on the situation – like when Iain Duncan Smith suggested that Ireland are playing hardball on Brexit because we have a *presidential* election due.
This reached a tipping point last night when Tory MP Bernard Jenkin appeared on Sky News, and some of his facts about Ireland weren’t accurate… at all

“If you listen to Bertie Ahern, if you listen to Enda Kelly – these are two former Taoiseachs, Prime Ministers of Northern Ireland – they haven’t quite played ball like the present Irish Prime Minister”
A longer clip shows him referring to the two men as “former Prime Ministers of Northern Ireland” again later in the interview
Ignorant tools like @bernardjenkin are going to make a calamity into a disaster

Irish people watching were flabbergasted at what had gone down – and the clip started circulating on Twitter
He should probably be aware that Northern Ireland doesn’t have a Taoiseach given… it’s part of the UK
It’s almost an achievement to make so many mistakes in such a short period of time
The Wikipedia entry for Northern Ireland might see a spike in traffic from Westminster if this continues
Bernard Jenkin is now topping this particularly depressing league table
Jacob Rees-Mogg – you’re going to have to step it up.
If you’re going to get Enda’s name wrong, at least go with the tried and trusted
Was it for this etc?
A nation braces itself for another day as the main story in the British media.
