MTV went black-and-white in honour of Martin Luther King, but it totally backfired

Viewers weren’t happy.

YESTERDAY, AMERICA CELEBRATED Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

To mark the occasion, MTV decided to go black-and-white for the day in order to spark a conversation about race. It invited contributors such as Kendrick Lamar, Pete Wentz and Common to discuss the issue.

On the surface, it seems like a nice idea – the intentions are good, at the very least.

Unfortunately, the stunt kind of backfired yesterday with viewers expressing annoyance at the fact that their favourite shows (read: reality show Catfish) were being shown in black-and-white.

For your reference, this is what the whole thing looked like.

Touching.

Suffice to say, the stunt has attracted criticism from people who don’t necessarily think showing Catfish in black-and-white is the optimum way to honour the memory of Martin Luther King.

Facepalm.

The host of MTV’s Catfish is under fire for this dopey tweet about domestic abuse >
