A mam is getting stick for dying her six-year-old daughter's hair blue

“It’s hair… It’ll grow back!”

MARY THOMASTON IS a hairdresser from Florida who specialises in interesting colours like these:

It’s no surprise then that her six-year-old daughter Lyra got a hankering for ‘mermaid hair’, and begged her mother for weeks to dye it for her.

Mary said she would, but only if her school was OK with it – and with their permission, she applied a non-permanent turquoise dye to Lyra’s hair, and gave her a purple and yellow undercut.

Mary told The Luxury Spot:

Her hair is already light so all I had to do was add in the temporary colour. I tried to talk her out of the shaved side because I thought she might regret it once it was done, but I was wrong. She was soooo excited.

She posted pictures of Lyra’s hair transformation on Instagram – and while some people appreciated the creative look, others thought Lyra was ‘too young’ to be dying her hair.

Don’t get it. She had such beautiful hair. Would never do that to my daughter’s hair.
How long did this little girl have to sit to accomplish that? Sometimes we forget they’re little and not a little doll.

Mary’s response? Hair grows.

“Don’t worry folks, it’ll wash out. She wasn’t harmed in the process. It’s hair… It’ll grow back!” she said.

“I say why not let them have fun while they’re young,” she told The Luxury Spot.

Who knows what type of job she may end up with, but a lot of them won’t allow unnatural colours. When you think about it that way, it’s actually the perfect time to let them experiment with colour.

Lyra’s rocking it, TBH. We have serious hair envy.
