Cold play: Musicians make ice instruments

Norwegian composer Terje Isungset demonstrates the power of ice…

OF ALL THE materials you can choose to make music with, frozen water might not be the first to come to mind.

But that’s not the case for Norwegian composer and percussionist Terje Isungset, founder of the annual three-day IceMusic Festival.

Speaking to the BBC, Isungset said: ”Like human beings, we don’t own the Earth we are just visitors here – and it’s the same with my instruments. They are not actually mine – I don’t own them – I just borrow them and give them back to nature.”

Each year, musicians and music-lovers head to to Geilo, Norway, to experience one of the most unique festivals in the world – where every instrument is made of ice.

The results are pretty special. See for yourself…
