IN-CAR NAVIGATION SYSTEM manufacturers TomTom are calling for willing (and lucky) people to spend two weeks on the Caribbean island of St Lucia as part of a new mapping project.

The Map Paradise Project involves mapping five tropical islands, and the campaign started off recently with a similar call-out for anyone interested in travelling to and mapping Fiji. The successful applicants for the Fiji leg of the project will be announced on 22 June on Facebook and via email.

TomTom will seek applicants for mapping Mauritius, Cape Verde and the Seychelles in the coming weeks.

The company is currently looking for up to five friends or family members to map St Lucia – and it’s offering €10,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to the island to the successful applicants. At least one of the five must be able to drive.

The company says that previous mapping experience is not required, but a decent sense of direction would certainly be useful, as would the desire to explore beautiful locations. Anyone interested has to fill out an application form online.

The mapping involves using a specially equipped mapping car (provided by TomTom) to drive around the island – this is the first step in the company’s mapping process.

TomTom managing director Corinne Vigreux says that the company is currently reviewing the thousands of applications it received to map Fiji:
