SALLY JESSY RAPHAEL says Russell Westbrook’s signature lens-less red glasses are more of a curse than a blessing.
The talk show host told Time magazine that her own experience wearing bright red glasses has been terrible.
First of all, they attract thieves:
“People swipe them. If I was at a restaurant and was wearing the darn things, and put them down and went to the ladies room, they’d be gone. And I really need glasses to see.”
In addition, people are constantly bothering you at airports and demanding that you put on your glasses to take pictures with them. Here’s an ominous anecdote:
“People really get insistent. A woman goes, ‘Oh, darling, would you take a picture with my mother?’ She loves you. Of course, I’m on my way to the plane and I know I’m going to miss it. But I have to stop and I stand there. And she says, “Oh, don’t you have your red glasses?’”When Raphael told the woman she doesn’t carry them in her pocket, to be whipped out in an airport at a moment’s notice, her mother lost a little love for Sally. “OK, maybe we’ll get a picture some other time.”
Considering Westbrook’s status as a fashion innovator, it’s unlikely that he’ll stick with the red glasses look for much longer.
But if the glasses start to take over his life like they took over SJR’s life, you can’t say no one warned him.
