This NFL star uses Irish dancing to help his footwork and his brilliant story made the RTÉ news

1-2-3.

MEET ALEX COLLINS, a running back for the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL.

American football doesn’t have widespread popularity in Ireland, but Collins has come on the radar of a nation in the past 24 hours thanks to his unique training methods.

To help with his “footwork and conditioning” he… Irish dances in his spare time.

And there is delightful video evidence

RTÉ News shared his story yesterday – and it turns out that he has some serious pedigree

He took it up six years ago in High School thanks to the daughter of his football coach – and returned to it last year when he was looking for a way to improve his agility. He explained to RTÉ:

“The footwork aspect of it helps me on the football field. As far as coming out of the back field, there’s a lot of rhythm and timing with Irish dance that there is for a running back as well”

And shots of him in action show in *loving* the training

Last week, a mam reached out to him about bullying her 12-year-old son is receiving because of Irish dancing

And Alex backed him and his dancing all the way

He hasn’t bagged a touchdown yet this season, but everyone’s hoping for a bit of quality Irish dancing to celebrate when it does happen.
