Presenter Niall Boylan's house burgled during live radio show

The Classic Hits 4FM host called his own show to discuss the break-in.

TALK SHOW HOST Niall Boylan had his house burgled as he presented his radio show this afternoon.

Boylan received a message on his mobile while on air, then abruptly left the show on Dublin station Classic Hits 4fm.

His producer Mike Hogan stepped into his shoes and explained the situation to listeners – before Boylan called up from his home for a live interview about the burglary.

Hogan asked him to explain what had happened:

Hogan: We’re getting a lot of texts in wondering what’s happened. Are you OK?
Boylan: I’m fine, everything is fine and everybody is healthy. Basically the house has been broken into. But the strangest thing is, they just wrecked the place… I don’t know what they were looking for.

The presenter went on to say that he believed a considerable amount of his wife’s jewellery had been taken.

Here’s the full interview, as aired this afternoon:

At the time of the break-in, Boylan was discussing the influence of background on criminality – a coincidence that Hogan pointed out on air.

Hogan: Isn’t it ridiculously coincidental that you were doing a topic about does a bad background matter? And this just shows that it doesn’t, they’re just scumbags who did this to your home.
Boylan: Oh, complete and utter scum.

Boylan, who is known for his outspoken views and controversial opinions, has expressed fear that the break-in could have been sparked by his radio show.

He told the Irish Examiner: ”I always feared something like this would happen because I get threats all the time from some listeners who don’t like what I say.”

The presenter has tweeted a photo of the window the thieves apparently broke to break into his house.

He has said that he will return to the airwaves this evening for his regular show, and added:
