Nicole Kidman announces birth of daughter
WHEN NICOLE KIDMAN and husband Keith Urban turned up at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night nobody guessed that the couple had a teeny (tiny) secret: a newborn daughter waiting at home.
The following day, they announced the best-kept secret in Hollywood by confirming the birth of their daughter, Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, on 28 December 2010. Baby Faith was borne by a surrogate mother and is biologically the couple’s daughter.
In a statement released to People magazine, the couple said: “Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret.” They added: “No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier.”
Kidman and Urban, both 43, had their first daughter Sunday Rose in July 2008. Kidman also has two adopted children, Isabella an Conor, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
Meanwhile, some media coverage in the couple’s home country of Australia has pointed out that commercial surrogacy may will soon be illegal in certain parts of the country. The New South Wales Surrogacy Act, which was passed last November, will impose jail sentences and/or fines on parents who pay for a surrogate – home or abroad, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
Altruistic surrogacy will still be legal in NSW after the act comes into effect.
