Aiken Promotions confirmed the news tonight and urged fans to hold onto their tickets.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Aiken Promotions stated that Payne had been taken ill and was deemed unable to perform.

The One Direction show tonight has been cancelled as Liam has taken ill, and whilst not serious, he is unable to perform tonight. Please hold on to your tickets. A further statement will be made in the morning. The band apologise to the fans and wish Liam better.

Footage from inside the SSE Belfast Arena showed a lot of angry, upset fans.

The Irish News reports that children are “crying in the street”.

Eamonn Holmes, meanwhile, is having none of it.

Further details on Payne’s condition are expected in the morning, although The Sun’s Dan Wootton is reporting tonight that he is not in hospital.

The band is scheduled to perform in Belfast tomorrow and Thursday night, but Aiken Promotions have yet to confirm whether these dates will go ahead as planned.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the teens of Belfast.
