Our 7 favourite bits from last night's Oscars
SO, THEY’RE ALL over for another year.
As we type some very hungry starlets are gladly tucking into their first sandwiches in months, countless bottles of free champagne are being quaffed, and Jennifer Lawrence is probably sitting in a toilet cubicle rocking back and forth and keening.
Oh, didn’t you hear? She fell. On the way to collect her Best Actress award.
Obviously that’s not one of our favourite bits of the evening, but here are the highlights:
1. Adele’s speech
It was the ‘AW GAWD’ that got us…

2. The backstage craic
Love this guy photobombing George and Denzel
Paul Rudd and Melissa McCarthy clowning around
Adele signing the backstage poster
Jack and Quentin shooting the breeze

3. The Irish lad onstage for Les Mis
Killian Donnelly from Meath was part of the ensemble cast for Les Mis, and had a speaking part in the film.
He was singing onstage at the Dolby Theatre last night, and got a tweet of support from Russell Crowe:
Killian called the experience “the most incredible moment of my life”
4. The Jaws treatment
When somebody was giving it a bit too much chat during their acceptance speeches, the orchestra gave them a not-too-subtle shove off the stage by playing the Jaws music.
Not the major celebs, mind. Nobody gives Ben Affleck the Jaws treatment.
It was a welcome addition though:
5. Daniel Day-Lewis’ speech
Nobody gets to make a joke at Meryl Streep’s expense and look classy doing it quite like Daniel Day Lewis.
When picking up his Oscar for Best Actor for Lincoln, he joked that he and Meryl had planned to swap roles, and that she would play the former US president and that he would play Margaret Thatcher.
Daniel, you kidder.
He also said lovely things about his wife Rebecca Miller and was generally the best person ever.

6. Making R-Carpz happen
As well as liveblogging all the action, we were going like the clappers on Twitter throughout the night.
Although we didn’t manage to get it trending, we’re claiming a small moral victory by virtue of the fact that at least three people are now sure to refer to the red carpet as R-Carpz from now on.
And then they’ll tell three friends, and then they’ll tell three friends, and then R-Carpz will take over the world.

7. Grant Heslov
Grant Heslov produced Argo alongside Ben Affleck and George Clooney, but he is endowed with neither their handsomeness of face or fullness of beard.
He still took to the stage last night and proclaimed the three to be “the sexiest producers in the business”.
It can’t be easy being pals with those two beautiful fizzogs, so Grant Heslov, we salute you (and Argo, which is a great film)
