IT WAS ANNOUNCED today that the Oxegen music festival will not be going ahead this year.

In a short statement, promoters MCD confirmed the news and hinted that the three-day event – which at its peak had a capacity of 80,000 – may never return.

The company said it was “no longer viable to stage the Festival in its current form”.

But perhaps the biggest contingent were worried about a possible impact on other festivals:
