(Spoilers ahead for episode two of The Great British Bake Off …)
CAKE WEEK ON The Great British Bake Off has been and gone, but it’s impact lingers on.
The bakers got all hot and bothered (literally – remember the summer we had that now seems like a distant memory?) making tray bakes, le gateau vert and another selection of Show Stoppers for judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
And it’s fair to say that the pair were impressed with the bakers’ efforts.
Over the course of the episode, Paul dished out not one, not two, but three Hollywood Handshakes. On top of that, two of those handshakes were given for Show Stopper cakes – a Bake Off first.
Paul awarded the first handshake of the series to Dan, who impressed with his boozy black forest gateaux traybake during the first round.
The 52-year-old went on to give another handshake to Rahul for his two-tiered chocolate cake in the Showstopper challenge.
However, Paul then gave a third handshake to Ruby for her chocolate-orange creation only minutes later, leaving both the tent and viewers gobsmacked.
Even the baker himself was surprised by his flippant award-giving, admitting to the camera: “I’m disappointed with myself!”
The acts of praise divided fans, with some arguing that the master bread maker was doling them out willy-nilly. We’ve a lot to be worrying about, clearly.
Me when Rahul and Ruby got Hollywood Handshakes for their showstoppers. Also me with the fact it’s ONLY the second episode of the series and we’ve had THREE Handshakes in one episode #GBBO pic.twitter.com/EZTscrnO6n

Some people reckon the whole thing should just be done away with.
Listen, she’s not wrong.
We’ll see how generous he is come Bread Week!
