We need to discuss Pierce Brosnan's singing in Mamma Mia 2

The best worst thing about it.

CONFESSION. I’VE NEVER seen Mamma Mia.

Sure, I’ve seen the musical, but not the original movie. With all the hype around the sequel, Here We Go Again, I just had to give in to my hatred for actors miming their own auto-tuned recordings.

Irish people have gone crazy for it, with the official soundtrack reaching number one in the charts.

It’s only right that I get in on it.

Without having seen the original on screen, I was shocked to hear that my beloved Pierce Brosnan can’t sing.

Pierce plays architect Sam, one of Sophie’s possible fathers, a role that you would never really have a former Bond set aside for.

He told The Irish Sun that his Irishness was a factor in taking the role:

I’m by no means a great singer, but I like to sing. It’s the Irish in me that loves to sing and dance and twirl.

You can’t argue with that.

While I laughed at Cher’s rendition of Fernando, and cringed at Dominic Cooper ruining One Of Us, I didn’t think Pierce’s melancholy SOS was THAT bad.

Not everyone agreed.

Pierce responded to the backlash after the first movie, and his SOS duet with Meryl Streep. Basically, he doesn’t give a shite. He was positively dying to get stuck back in.

Am I excited? Yes, I’m excited. I don’t know if the people will be excited, but one way or the other I shall sing again, whether they like it or not. I don’t care what they say! I love my voice! I think that it will grow on people. They will always just want to hear a little singing from me.

This is BDE.

However, he noticeably didn’t get as much singing time.

Please let’s just revisit it for a second.

Look at that determination. Admirable.

However, Pierce is a lesson to us all to not look at past criticisms and just MOVE ON ahead if it’s something you enjoy.

Hey, some people even liked him. And he’s loving life!

If nothing else, it’s an amusing way to achieve that collective viewing feeling you want from the cinema.

We can all agree that he’s a great Mamma Mia dad.

Sing your lil heart out, Pierce.
