BACK IN FEBRUARY, a star was inadvertently born in the RTÉ Archives department.
A 1997 segment from Nationwide was uploaded to the RTÉ Player titled ‘Single Women Scarce In Kerry’. It featured an interview with well known matchmaker Willie Daly in Daly’s Bar, Ennistymon, Clare.
In the background, a baby could be seen expertly supping on a pint of Guinness while sitting on his mam’s knee at the bar
A short clip was taken by RTÉ journalist Cian McCormack and shared to Facebook.
And Pint Baby became an overnight phenomenon
Stephen and Caroline Barron from Kildare were the mother and son in question and they ended up on the Six One News discussing the moment.
Caroline is originally from nearby Lisdoonvarna and the family were in the area for a funeral last week.
So they dropped into Daly’s Bar to have a pint in the exact spot where the original Pint Baby moment took place
20 years later, they were back.
Willie Daly is the owner of the bar and he was interviewed on Nationwide all those years ago
Pint Baby met him too
The whole gang is back together.
Caroline told DailyEdge.ie that it was great being back in Daly’s and that Stephen would have met the family a few times since the 1997 Nationwide scene:
They have meet a couple of times over the years as we would would call in when in Ennistymon and that day there was filming going on for Nationwide so we called in for the craic.
I am originally from Lisdoonvarna and I know Willie all my life, he is the local matchmaker down there and he would know everybody, and I would know his daughter Marie (pictured above) also because we would be the same age.
Of course, Guinness was the drink of choice back in 1997 so it had to be again when the moment was recreated.
At least this time he could have a full pint.
