The Bio-Bus runs on biomethane gas, which is generated through treated sewage and food waste.
According to the BBC, the bus can travel up to 300km on one tank of the gas – which is produced from the annual waste of five people. Just to hammer that point home, the side of the bus is decorated with illustrations of five people on the loo.
Charlotte Morton of the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association told The Guardian that biomethane gas could replace 10% of the UK’s domestic gas needs.
Bet you never thought you’d read that. Well, Bus Éireann? What say you?
