A Dublin radio station trolled Facebook with a fake photo of 'demolished' Poolbeg chimneys

Oh, Adrian Kennedy. When will you learn?

THERE ARE WIDESPREAD fears that Dublin’s iconic Poolbeg chimneys could be demolished, after the ESB suggested that necessary repairs would not be cost-effective.

And last night, 98FM DJs Adrian Kennedy and Jeremy Dixon posted this to their Facebook page, writing:

**BREAKING NEWS** This photo was literally taken ten minutes ago. After all the talk it’s finally happened, the first chimney has been demolished. We are down here at Sandymount now, crowds gathered. They should have had a public vote before taking the first one down.

The reaction was swift and immediate.

The photo was shared scores of times and liked by hundreds, as users left comments describing their disappointment:

I think it’s a sad day these are a part of a lot if people’s childhood
No way it’s the first thing you spot out of a plane when coming home from holidays & u know your home when you see them be weird now with them gone…..
I only looked at them today from dun laoghaire! Ya don’t see anyone moanin half as much about this than they did about a guy in a cowboy hat! There’s a landmark gone …
Ah ffs! when i was younger i was convinced thats what made the clouds…..

And then, as readers copped on, the disappointment turned to anger.

I jumped in my car and drove to the red cow to see them gone. Was convinced
Me katie and claire were just there and there were two
Its official Adrian Kennedy & Jeremy Dixon are a pair of assholes, not a bit funny or entertaining.
this better be a joke:(

Eventually, Kennedy and Dixon posted a not-at-all-apologetic clarification.

But this was probably the best response, from Paula Haverty:
