EVERY MONTH, HUNDREDS of Gaeilgeoirs have been coming together to have the chats over pints as Gaeilge in Dublin – and it’s even moving beyond the capital, like this event that’s happening in Listowel later this month.
But last night it went international.
There was a ‘pop up Gaeltacht’ in William Barnacle Tavern in Manhattan
The organisers had even created a very New York appropriate invitation
And sure enough on the night itself there was quite a turnout
The plan was simple:
Caint, craic, agus deoch nó dhó. Bígí linn!
And it looks like it was some night – with more than a cúpla focal spoken over a few drinks
They had their own pop up Gaeltacht Nua-Eabhrac sign for the occasion
One of the founders of the Dublin movement, Peadar Ó Caomhánaigh, told DailyEdge.ie back in March:
The concept is open source. We just want it to be 100% normal when people hear Irish being spoken on a night out in Dublin.
You can add New York to the list now too.
