8 songs that prove that pop stars were way more dramatic in the early 2000s

In fairness, these are all perfect songs for predrinks.

THE CHARTS OF the early 2000s were full of enough dramatic love songs to sustain Q102′s The Love Zone for eternity.

1. Daniel Bedingfield – If You’re Not The One

DanielBedingVEVO / YouTube

This video features several Daniel Bedingfields in various dramatic positions – one is on his knees, one is just lying on the floor and another looking at the viewer.

It looks exactly like the Sad Man On The Beach meme.

Regardless of how much of a banger this song is, Daniel Bedingfield definitely wouldn’t have gotten away with a video like this in 2017.

2. Will Young – Leave Right Now

willyoungVEVO / YouTube

Look at how Will Young reacts when he’s offered a glass of champagne. This woman is just trying to do her job, Will.

leave right now

Several others attempt to get his attention but all he cares about is singing into the camera, threatening over and over again to “leave right now.” His friends try to pull him away because he’s making a show of himself, but he ends up having a huge scrap with them. Nobody can get Will Young under control.

Despite all of the fuss he makes, he doesn’t even leave in the end. His ex is forced to leave, because he’s making way too much of a scene. If this happened in 2017, someone would have to call the Gardaí to this function.

3. Enrique Iglesias – Hero

We could just point out the fact that Enrique is brooding in the middle of a desert in a wool hat and leave it at that.

However, it gets far weirder than that. Mickey Rourke appears and kicks the shite out of Enrique Iglesias in front of his girlfriend Jennifer Love Hewitt. After getting battered by Mickey Rourke, Iglesias stumbles to his girlfriend, who is standing in front of several vacant police cars.

Then he dies. By the end of this music video, you’ll feel as if you just watched an entire film.

4. Blue – Breathe Easy

BlueVEVO / YouTube

One of the lads in Blue is heartbroken, so his bandmates do what any good friends would do in that situation. They all don their most Matrix-esque outfits and stroll around in the snow together.

The overall plot of this video is almost incomprehensible. All of the boys from Blue are following a woman and her new boyfriend around. Her old boyfriend appears to have died after taking the breakup very badly.

Did Blue play a part in his death? What has it got to do with them? It’s not clear, but they follow everyone around and gently place their hands on the shoulders of everyone involved.

5. Eamon – F**k It (I Don’t Want You Back)

Lexi Trainer / YouTube

A man called Eamon (of all names he could have, he has the name of a Dublin City Council librarian), aggressively and gratuitously swears at his unfaithful ex-girlfriend. It doesn’t get more dramatic than this one… Or does it?

6. Frankee – F**k U Right Back

SteveAATW / YouTube

Frankee gives her side of the story and explains why she cheated on Eamon. This is like Eastenders: The Musical. The lyrics of this one are fairly funny.

“F**k what I did, was your fault somehow.”

Eamon is to blame for her infidelity, but she’s not quite sure why yet.

“Now you want me to come back, you must be smoking crack.”

It’s been far too long since we’ve had someone respond to a call out song like this. Bring this back in 2018, please.

Amazingly, Frankee dropped out of her full scholarship in insurance brokering at the University of Tampa, Florida to focus on her music career. It’s safe to say that this was a very poor idea. There’s not a lot of info on Wikipedia about what Eamon’s up to these days, but it appears that he’s still dwelling on being cheated on before 2003.

It’s true. He has also released a song about murdering a man that his partner cheated on him with.

7. James Blunt – You’re Beautiful

James Blunt / YouTube

This song is the biggest red flag of all time. James Blunt saw this woman literally ONCE on the train (while she was with her boyfriend) and decided to write a song about her. He then proceeds to sit on a big white plastic cliff and strips off all of his clothes in the snow while recounting the short glance he got of this woman’s face.

8. Nelly and Kelly – Dilemma

NellyVEVO / YouTube

Again, like something that’d happen in Eastenders. Kelly Rowland has just moved to Nellyville with her boo and she’s already plotting her affair with Nelly. She then famously uses Microsoft Excel to try and text someone and gets annoyed when she doesn’t get a reply.
