Potentially embarrassing Sarkozy biopic to premier at Cannes
A BIOGRAPHICAL FILM of Nicolas Sarkozy’s 2007 election success and the subsequent break-up of his second marriage will premier at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
Sarkozy’s presidential election campaign has been under intense scrutiny in recent months after allegations that a billionaire heiress inappropriately donated money to it. More recently, the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s son claimed his family had provided funding for the campaign.
The film La Conquête, or The Conquest, portrays a sympathetic view of the president, whose party has suffered serious losses in recent local elections ahead of his push for a second presidential term next year.
However, the movie also presents Sarkozy as being concerned about his height, the Telegraph reports, and the president’s aides are apparently not impressed with the trailer.
The Woody Allen film featuring the president’s third wife, Carla Bruni, is also due to feature at the festival and the French first couple have been expected to attend that screening.
