THIS YEAR IS the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of Princess Diana, prompting a fresh wave of tributes.
One that has been attracting a lot of attention is a handmade memorial in the English town of Chesterfield, south of Sheffield.
It’s… unique:
An attempt was made! There’s nearly a definite likeness!
The people of Chesterfield have been sharing their reactions to the memorial with the world:
It of course invited comparisons to another famous work of art:
The artwork was made from all natural materials including flowers, berries, and leaves, with egg shells of different shades used for Diana’s face.
The Evening Standard reports that local residents have been asking for it to be taken down, saying it is “insulting to Diana” and that the local council should be “ashamed”.
A spokesman for council has defended the memorial, however:
All art is meant to be a talking point… If the publicity encourages more people to come and visit the market and local shops then that can only be good for Chesterfield.
Good for Chesterfield, absolutely terrible for our sleep tonight.
See you in your dreams…
