Man proposes at Facebook HQ after falling in love with a stranger he 'poked'

He ‘liked’ it, so now he’s putting a ring on it.

A COUPLE WHO met on Facebook have become engaged after a surprise proposal at the company’s headquarters in California.

Steven Kawalit from Ontario, Canada met fiancée Nafis Joon when he ‘poked’ her after she appeared on his Facebook timeline back in 2007. The pair kept talking and started going out after Joon agreed to a date.

Kawalit decided to keep the spontaneous Facebook theme in their relationship by proposing in Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, telling his now-fiancée that he had won a competition for a free tour.

While the two were posing for a photo in Hacker Square, a Facebook employee asked them to turn around, revealing the words ‘Nafis, will you marry me?’ on the big screen.

Surrounded by CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO and leaner-inner Sheryl Sandberg, he got down on one knee.

When people ask us how we met, we say ‘mutual friends’. And today you meet your mutual friends. Nafis, I love you very much. You’re my best friend. Will you marry me?

Speaking to ABC news, Kawalit said “It was funny how I jumped on the social network to catch up with long-lost friends and ended up meeting the love of my life.”

“There is no way we would have ever met if it wasn’t for Facebook,” Joon said.
