SOMETIMES, ALL WE need is to beat a stranger at pool.
Do it in these places, or y’know, play someone you know.
1. Bernard Shaw, Richmond Street South
This is often referred to as a ‘hipster joint’, forget that, as you can’t beat the big pool tables out in the smoking area for a good hustle. There’s usually someone lurking about to give you a good game, with a little audience to boot.
2. Fibbers, Parnell Street
The music is loud, and the sound of people hustling is even louder. Beware of what you get yourself into during their €3 drink nights, but always a banging atmosphere to have a game with friends. Just don’t expect to be able to hear each other.
3. Ryan’s, Queen Street
Solid craic and potting of pool balls to be found in this Northside gem.
4. Generator, Smithfield
This hostel is always top quality craic, and you can find yourself embroiled in a game of pool with all sorts of nationalities.
5. The Palace, Camden Street
Getting ready for a big night out? Start with a game of pool in The Palace pool hall, there’s so many tables, you definitely won’t be left waiting.
6. The Long Stone, Townsend Street
Their pool table is located in one of the finest hidden gems of a beer garden in Dublin city. Heated, cosy, spacious, and of course, great for a game of pool.
7. Hacienda Bar, Little Mary Street
If it’s good enough for Ed Sheeran, it’s good enough for us.
8. The Black Sheep, Capel Street
This craft beer pub is SO dedicated to its craft beer, even the pool table is branded.
9. The Hideout, South William Street
They don’t technically sell beer, but it’s BYOB for €2.50 which is potentially even better. The pool tables are the best in the city, there, we said it. The use of a table for an hour time €12 though, so you might want to stay somewhere free.
10. McGrattans, Fitzwilliam Lane
Great pub food and snug settings. Excellent spot for an after-work pint and a game of pool.
