Rachel Allen issues statement on her son's arrest following €30,000 drug seizure

‘He has admitted his guilt immediately and co-operated fully with the Gardaí.’

TV CHEF AND mother-of-three, Rachel Allen, has released a statement following her 18-year-old son’s arrest.

A post shared by Rachel Allen (@rachelallen1) on

Rachel, who has penned numerous cookbooks and appears regularly on RTÉ and BBC, spoke of her devastation following the events of recent days.

According to the Irish Mirror, Rachel outlined the facts in order to moderate press and public scrutiny.

We are making a statement in response to, and hopefully to alleviate, the frenzy of enquiry and speculation ongoing in relation to our son Joshua. He has been arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs (marijuana) with intent to supply them to others.

She stresses that her son has cooperated with Gardaí and will be pleading guilty to the charge.

He has admitted his guilt immediately and co-operated fully with the Gardaí. A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions and when formally charged Joshua will be pleading guilty at the first opportunity. We are absolutely devastated at this turn of events.

Rachel, who is also mother to Lucca and Scarlett, goes on to acknowledge the implications of the arrest.

Our son is 18-years-old, has never been in trouble with the Gardaí, and has made a huge mistake, which will have profound consequences for him. We do not in any way condone his actions, in fact, we utterly condemn them, but it is not for us to condemn him.

Speaking on behalf of herself and her husband, Rachel concluded the statement with a plea that they be allowed to deal with the implications of their son’s arrest like ‘any other parents’.

We must now try to look after our son and our family, the best way we can. We would ask that the legal process would be allowed to proceed to deal with this matter, without interference, and that we would be allowed to deal with this, like any other parents, in a similar position.

The Gardaí operation was carried out in the Shanagarry area of Co Cork last Thursday afternoon.
