Poll: Has a celeb ever rejected your request for a selfie?

“No, but we can take a picture.”

RAMI MALEK IS trending on Twitter this week, which makes sense, given that he’s starring in the new Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, right?

… Except, that’s actually not the reason he’s the talk of Twitter.

You see, a fan stopped Rami in the street recently to try and get him to record a little video message for their friend. Rami, however, was having absolutely none of it.

Upon realising the fan is recording, he says, “No, but we can take a picture.” She keeps recording while the two pose for a photo, before he concludes: “Well, that’s a video.”Awkward. (View it in all it’s cringey glory here.)

It’s spawned some gas memes, and at the very least, she did technically get her video message in the end.

There’s no bad guy here – just an eager fan looking to get a video, and a guy who was probably wrecked from weeks of promotional work. Celebrities don’t owe us anything, but there’s nothing to suggest from the video that the fan was being pushy or untoward.

However, it got me thinking about our awkward celebrity encounters. Anytime I’ve met a celebrity, 95% of the time I’ve chickened out of asking for a photo with them (recently, I ran from work to try and get a snap with Dermot Kennedy in a coffee shop he was in, only for me to run directly past him.)

A friend of mine met The Weeknd on Grafton Street the week of his headline slot at Longitude, and was promptly denied her request for a photo. Maintaining a “in for a penny, in for a pound” mentality, she decided to ask for tickets for the festival instead. Once again, she was told succinctly – “no”.

God loves a trier, right?

Have you ever had a celebrity shoot you down for selfie?

Poll Results:

I've yet to meet a celeb in the flesh. Sob. (547)
No, thank God. (473)
Yeah, I was morts for myself. (117)
