Ray D'Arcy becomes Kildare tourism ambassador
TODAY FM DJ Ray D’Arcy has performed his first official function as the tourism ambassador for his native Co Kildare: weaving a St Brigid’s Cross for the annual Feile Bhride.
D’Arcy has been named as tourism ambassador to the county as part of a new venture aiming to make Kildare a primary tourist destination.
Speaking yesterday at St Brigid’s Cathedral and the Round Tower in Kildare town, D’Arcy said he had always been a “proud Kildare man” but that he felt the county was undersold, the Irish Independent reports.
Launching its new tourism drive last month, Kildare Fáilte predicted a 10 per cent increase of tourists in the county as a result of the venture, accounting for an increased annual visitor spend of more than €10 million in the local economy, reports the Kildare Nationalist.
