Nobody on the internet can agree how 'read receipts' should be pronounced
IRELAND, WE HAVE a question: how do you pronounce the phrase ‘read receipt’?
It may seem like an obvious question, but the internet has been locked in a tense battle over the past 24 hours over how to correctly pronounce it.
It all started when The Hairpin published an article entitled, “Do You Know People Say ‘Reed’ Receipt?” As you might have guessed, the article revealed that there is a significant cohort of people out there that pronounce ‘read receipt’ as ‘reed receipt’ instead of ‘red receipt’.
If you pronounce it as ‘reed receipt,’ you’re probably like, “Well, duh.” But if you’re #TeamRedReceipt, this news has likely shaken you to your very core.
Following the article’s publication, Twitter user @yc posted a (now deleted) poll asking how people pronounce it.
