How Rebecca Humphries used her public break-up to pursue a passion project
THERE WERE FEW among us who hadn’t, at the very least, heard tell of a Strictly Come Dancing scandal back in October.

Whether or not you watched the BBC show or were familiar with its celebrity contestants, it was hard to escape the furore surrounding it during one particular week in Autumn.
Put very simply, comedian Seann Walsh, who at the time was in a relationship with Rebecca Humphries, was photographed kissing his dance partner Katya Jones.
The photographs went public, Seann refused to apologise in any meaningful way, Rebecca released a heartfelt statement, and in the time it took her to pack her belongings (and collect the cat), Rebecca left Seann.
While she was lauded for the dignity she showed in the face of such public humiliation, Rebecca recently disclosed the endeavour which kept her on an even keel during the most draining parts of the high-profile split.
In a post on her new website The Trowel, Rebecca shared an excerpt from her diary the day after Seann’s infidelity went public.
Referring to friends Claire and Rigby, Rebecca wrote: “Last night my world fell apart a bit.”
Rebecca went on to explain that her friend, in an attempt to buoy her mood, made reference to the fact that Marian Keyes using baking to get her through a difficult period in the past – a notion Rebecca refused to entertain.
She recorded the exchange in her diary, recalling that Claire asked her what she liked, and she remembered replying:
As of that day, Rebecca made it her mission to write one review a day, clarifying: “Well, apart from those days where everything felt too much. But on those days Claire did it for me.”

Together, the women created a website called The Trowel which Rebecca says provides ‘down to earth, funny, occasionally brutal examinations of the products and brands we spend far too much money on’.
“We’ve done it entirely for ourselves, for no money – just a determination to learn new skills and celebrate ourselves, our passions and the joy of female friendship,” she told her Instagram followers.
Explaining that she found solace in her beauty routine during the most draining parts of the break-up, Rebecca wrote:
“I’ve done it for me, and me alone, and you know what?” she wrote. “It’s made me feel excellent inside as well as out. Empowering as hell.”
Seann Walsh has not been invited to take part in the Strictly Come Dancing live tour.
